Annotation

The project focuses on the completion of a block of buildings in Berlin where only two original historical buildings remained after a bombing during World War II. The areas of the demolished houses are neglected and a source of negative and illegal activities, such as drug dealing. The design fills up the original form of the block by following the street lines which remained unchanged, preserves its permeability thanks to a large passage, ensures that the buildings look consistent by partly following the shapes of the remaining houses, and replaces the now-dysfunctional green area with a rooftop park. The designed buildings vivify the area by supporting its strongly-artistic culture, creating new jobs, and attracting young and active people.
