Prague roofs - Industrial building extension

Jan Šefl

Annotation

The main goal was to design a building that would complement the existing industrial building, which currently serves as a gallery. Typical sheet steel windows together with a lightweight skeletal structure give the building fragility, to which I react with something very solid and heavy. It was my effort to preserve this non-residential character and therefore I tried to design something atypical, but known in the area with a rich industrial history. The main mass is complemented at the top by the background of the roof garden and storage space. In their form, these objects can evoke the chimneys which could be found all over the place. The project is dedicated to Daniel Vávra, as a huge fan of modern architecture, who could also afford this house.
