Floating soil in Brno

Louis Janot

Annotation

The idea behind this project is to reduce the risk of floods (from the rainwater captured by the future Brno’s station) by creating a moving topography. For that, retention ponds are placed along the riverbank on top of which a mesh of floating blocks made out of the recycled polystyrene is installed. These meshes will then be covered by a fabric so that pedestrians or even cyclists can walk on top of it. At the end it’s all about creating alternative paths, both for cyclists and pedestrians so they can play with this moving topography which is changing according to the environment. This project also gives the people the opportunity to literally feel and experience this issue and thus raises awareness about soil sealing.
