Jan Vodňanský primary school

Bc. Jolana Štěpánová

Annotation

Jan Vodňanský, to whom the design of the primary school in Holešovice, Prague 5, is dedicated, was a prominent writer and philosopher. He was mainly involved in creation for children, but in the poems he also hid puzzles intended for adults. The primary school is inspired by this contrasting and unpredictable compositional principle. The street facade feels calm, sleek and representative, while in the inner block the facade is played out by cobblers, irregular windows and a distinctive roof structure in part of the outdoor playground. Attention is focused on the student social spaces, the indoor ones, which represent rest areas in corridors overlooking the outside and the possibility of entering an open cobbler, and external areas such as a green inner block.
