Grammar School Ďáblice

Štěpán Hronek

Annotation

The subject of the assignment was to design a grammar school building for 480 pupils in the Ďáblice housing estate in Prague, which has a dense network of kindergartens and primary schools, but no secondary schools. The building is divided into two parts on the ground floor by a passage, the larger part contains an inner courtyard and a passage to the public gymnasium. The two parts of ground floor are connected and unified into a cuboid by the mass of the second floor, which recedes slightly in the inner courtyard areas to create outdoor terraces for students. The building is clad in ceramic tiles. The large windows are screened by distinctive movable metal sun protections that unify the window openings into rectangular surfaces.
