MILANO NAVIGLI CANAL (UN)LOCKED

Gabriela Wenigová

Annotation

Our design was created to compete in an international challenge focusing on reopening a water canal located in an Italian city of Milan. We focused on a site of 15th century water lock, which was originally designed by the one and only Leonardo Da Vinci. Inspired by the beauty and thoughtful design of Italian renaissance gardens, we took their principles and reinvented them for the use of modern and progressive city of Milan. We created a diverse space suitable for peaceful relaxation as well as for organizing of public events. A place consisting of several chambers worth exploring where water parades in many different forms. The concept of (Un)Locked is a contemporary retelling of the best features that renaissance gardens have to offer.
