Milan once was the city of water canals, such as Venice for example. The international competition is asking its participants, how to reopen them and how the public space around them should look like in a few chosen areas. One of them is a street with a park square, connecting the future archeological park with a water basin and former port – Darsena. In the WATERSCAPE project, I’m opening the canal in its full beauty and water plays the key role in it. With the use of many smaller islands, the design offers a more intimate contact with the water level in numerous forms. The spatial concept is also formed by two paths in the main transit directions, because it’s pedestrian friendly. Thanks to modest playing features and a café half-hidden in the terrain, it’ a public space for everyone.
