Views over Bhutan

Michaela Šroubková

Annotation

This apartment building on the outskirts of Bhutan’s capital offers views into breathtaking nature and over the city, too. The design is inspired by local culture and thanks to the included prayer rooms, it supports the spiritual side of its inhabitants. With the help of a double roof construction, the structure is spread into two vertical masses. The main entrance made of darker wood is emphasised with low walls which provide a safer space for pedestrians, divided from the vehicular access. Stone retaining walls and a plinth keep the moisture of soil at bay, thus it doesn’t get to the timber structure. Southern sun shines through grand windows into the spacious main room which promotes gathering of the whole family. On the ground floor there are utility rooms and tanks to store rainwater.
