Ruins Reimagined

Annotation

The buildings at Klášterní street in Žatec, once used as warehouses with drying rooms for hops, now in ruins, stand unused and dilapidated. The proposed concept for the building complex aims to preserve its appearance as a ruin. The buildings and the surrounding yards should be opened up to the public, allowing them to explore the different spaces. The design features greenery, preserved historical parts, flexible exhibition spaces and a restaurant with terraces. The combination of garden areas with the remaining building structures connects the inside and outside seamlessly. Therefore, the design represents a fusion of nature, history and public interaction highlighting the historical and architectural significance of the buildings to Žatec.
