PALACE OF SPORTS
Annotation
The design draws on the 18th-century floorplan of the armoury and transforms it into a semi-enclosed courtyard with porches. The courtyard represents the main feature of the design. Primarily used as an outdoor playground, it also serves as an area for occasional cultural events, performances or markets in addition to sporting activities. All of these events can be observed from the galleries that frame the courtyard. The whole building is partially sunken into the ground, creating a connection with the swimming pool in the basement of the nearby Tyrš House. Apart from the playground, the building contains a large gym, exercise rooms and chill-out zones such as a sauna or snack bar. The palace of sports has the potential to create a new vibrant sports hub in the heart of the Prague.
