LIBRARY & COMUNITY CENTER BREVNOV

Annotation

The dominant feature of Břevnov – the Břevnov Monastery and its adjacent park gardens, was uncompromisingly separated from the rest of the city district in the 1950s by the construction of the then new four-lane highway (Patočkova Street). The proposal seeks a way back to reconnect this important site with the rest of the city district. The highway is thus located below ground level in the section of the monastery gardens. The consequence is the maximum expansion of the monastery premises towards Bělohorská street and better pedestrian accessibility throughout the area. The place where these planes meet - the gardens and Bělohorská Street - is underlined and complemented by an object for the indoor enjoyment of the general public - a library and a community center.
