Sheepfold: recycling of former stables

Tereza Veverková

Annotation

A location in the Lusatian Mountains, former stables are being transformed into a new form preserving their purpose - sheep breeding, expanded to include a cheese factory, restaurant and accommodation. This project responds to the gradual disappearance of traditional farming in the landscape and encourages its return. It follows the traditional farmhouse and is designed as a house within a house. The outer layer - a space bounded by pillars that recycle bricks from the original ruined building. Inside the space is a restaurant that can be modified thanks to sliding doors between the pillars. The inner layer is made of wood, concentrating all the main operations of the building - the milking parlour, the dairy with cheese production and the kitchen.
