Apis House

Lucia Miková

Annotation

The building is located on the corner of the newly created block on the Upper Square in Opava. The name is derived from the Latin Apis, which means bee. IBees became the main concept of and are visible in every aspect of the building. The brick façade is complemented by so-called "bee bricks" and catches the attention of passers-by at the first sight. The first two floors are devoted to shops for beekeeping products and supplies. The layout of the third floor is multi-purpose. Thanks to a folding wall the space is devided into a lobby and a classroom, but if necessary, it connects the rooms and creates a common space. From there, visitors can observe the bees or the beekeepers themselves at work. Upstairs is a beekeeping workshop and another atrium with beehives.
