Vyšehrad - a change of perspective

Šimon Nahálka

Annotation

Entering through a massive slab, the visitor finds himself in a sparse space with a high ceiling. In contrast to the richly decorated nearby basilica, the bare surfaces of the walls and ceiling are decorated only with the natural texture of the material. Their austerity, together with the descending platforms, draw the visitor's eye to the missing mass of the north wall. Its absence opens up a life-size view of the cityscape in three plans - the Vltava River, Malá Strana and Prague Castle. The scene, comparable to the curtain of the The National Theatre, is an ideal backdrop to the music that will be played in this concert space.
