ŠTVANICE PAVILION

Gregor Kalmár

Annotation

The location of the pavilion on Štvanice Island is adapted primarily for visitors arriving in the afternoon or evening. The open structure turns towards the western light and uses the reflectivity of the large water surface of the Vltava River. The purpose of the pavilion is to enhance the northwestern shore of Štvanice and to bring visitors closer to the water, from which they are separated by a steep river bed. Physically, this building appears light, it is dominated by a number of horizontal elements such as longitudinal stairs, ramps and tarpaulin construction. From the other side of the river, this structure resembles a sailboat floating on the surface. It thus reacts to the water level and also to the inner side of the island. It thus connects these surfaces.
