Goldsmith's, Charles Square, Náchod

Marek Krátký

Annotation

The goldsmith's shop is located on one of the smallest plots of land fronting Náchod's Charles Square, in the middle of the larger mass. The building is conceptually based on the medieval typology of a live-in shophouse. The ground floor houses the store facing the square and a goldsmith's workshop. The center belt of the building contains a workshop space and a salon for the individual requirements of a more demanding clientele; the owner's apartment is located on the top floor. The interior is dominated by a three-legged staircase, the stairwell of which is adorned with sculpture made of metal facade elements, connecting the interior with the exterior of the building. The facade itself is made up of a mosaic of golden metal blocks, adding shine and hinting at the house's function.
