House for Penelope

Alicia Joklová

Annotation

The whole concept of the house is based on the idea that it should be divided into two parts according to functionality; residential and representative. The representative part of the house expresses the power of Penelope, who carries the burden of royal duties. The second part of the house, separated by an outdoor staircase, is supposed to provide refuge from numerous suitors and at the same time it's supposed to offer a view of its surroundings and the landscape from various viewpoints, giving Penelope the opportunity to look out for her expected husband. The dominant feature of the house is the placement of the residential part into the cliff above the sea. This house for Penelope is a harmony between straight lines and curves symbolising elegance but also vigour and order.
