CARLO SCARPA TRIBUTE

Jakub Vician

Annotation

Asymmetry, circular elements, stairs, water and complicated geometry are characteristic features of the buildings of architect Carlo Scarpa. The design of the gateway to the CTU campus, based on Scarpa's creative principles, presents a central structure of an irregular wedge-shaped plan. Its spaces curl around a central semi-circular atrium with a pool whose surface reflects the interior space. The building is set within the planned development of the fourth quadrant square. At its front, facing the square, a staircase pool is constructed leading people to the underground spaces of the building. Conversely, its rear part is a curve that creates a stopping and resting place in the busy flow of the street.
