Escher's house

Marek Bill, Krystof Demel

Annotation

The house, inspired by the work of Maurits Escher, known for his drawings, is designed for aspiring artists. From the outside, it looks like three interlocking blocks, but inside a spectacular game is played out. On the ground floor is a public gallery, shared with the house next door. The other above-ground parts of the house are designed in a raumplan, so they have different heights according to their importance. After entering the house from the upper street, we find ourselves on the kitchen level, from which we go up to the bedroom and bathroom. The studio with living room is located below the kitchen and is the most important place in the house. That is why it has the highest ceiling, large windows with a view of Vyšehrad and access to the terrace, which extends both spaces.
