Thus, they create a perfect combination between openness and closedness. Like the house for Jane Austen, the one for Hugh Thomson is designed in a structural plan. This way the buildings complement each other and at the same time represent opposite characters. Hugh Thomson's house is more airy and visibly more open than Jane Austen's. Her house ensures privacy and creates the perfect place for the writer, cut off from the outside world, in which she can practice her craft.
