DUPLEX HOUSE FOR MILAN GRYGAR AND KVĚTA PACOVSKÁ

Michal Blaško, Adela Baštová

Annotation

This duplex house in Prague-Podolí pays tribute to the married couple Milan Grygar and Květa Pacovská, reflecting their fascination with geometric shapes and differing artistic approaches. The ground plan composition uses elongated rectangles, reminiscent of their paintings. Her house is placed diagonally to his, emphasizing her work’s main motif and their greatest contrast - playfulness. This is seen in the use of raumplan, a rounded studio window, and greater openness to the surroundings. His house, by contrast, aims for closedness, creating a space full of light and silence suitable for acoustic recordings and painting, aligning with Wright's organic philosophy. The goal was to harmonize these contrasting houses into an inspiring space for young artists.
