GET TO KNOW THE FA

Do you want to shape the world around you? Do you want a degree that is recognized throughout the EU? Does the idea of finding your own path through specialization sound attractive? The Faculty of Architecture offers three fields of study, covering everything from reshaping landscapes and public spaces to designing beautiful buildings, to the possibility of achieving perfection of detail as an industrial designer. In addition to Czech teachers, we also employ foreign experts, and, through programs such as Erasmus+, you can even gain international experience at schools abroad.

CREATIVE DNA

CTU’s long tradition of teaching architecture is based on exceptional personalities like Josef Zítek and Josef Schulz, known for their work on the building, and post fire re-building, of the National Theatre in Prague, through the generations of their pupils up to contemporary teachers and practicing local and foreign architects. The heads of the individual studios are inspiring personalities working with the legacy of the "old masters" in combination with the current, cutting-edge knowledge and practices of the third millennium.

MORE ON THE STUDY PROGRAM

THE VERTICAL STUDIO – REFINING UNIQUENESS AND THE ART OF COLLABORATION

STUDIOS – ARCHITECTURE AND URBANISM

STUDIOS – DESIGN

According to his/her specialization, the student can enrol in one of more than forty studios. Instruction is based the so-called vertical studio principle, in which the student works on varied projects with different-year students – from second to fifth year – under the guidance of an experienced teacher. This way the less experienced students can work on solutions to work projects alongside their more experienced colleagues and with the head of the studio.

CONTACT WITH IMPORTANT people OF CZECH ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN

It is a given that there are experts teaching at the faculty; but more important, perhaps, is that they are actual practicing architects and designers. The teaching staff consists of top architects, urban planners and designers whose implementations, projects and publications the public is familiar with, both at home and abroad. Such renowned personalities are not only inspiring but also bring their own, current topics to the instruction. During your studies, you will be in very close contact with them not only at school, but also in the context of excursions or workshops.

diploma projects GALLERY

The final project provides an opportunity for the graduate to apply and showcase the best of what he or she has learned. In addition, the Czech Chamber of Architects annually organizes a competition show of diploma theses, which is in which recent graduates of architectural schools participate, and in which FA graduates always place well.

THE FACULTY BUILDING

THE PHILOSOPHY OF OPENNESS

The CTU Faculty of Architecture building is the most modern building for teaching architecture in the Czech Republic. It was designed by Alena Šrámková, who still heads her own studio at the FA. It was completed in 2010 and began being used in February of the following year. It is clear and transparent: it allows us to do what we all strive for at the school, and what we value most – communication and the opportunity to connect with each other at work.

THREE FIELDS, THREE PERSPECTIVES, A SINGLE SPIRIT

As the only school of architecture in our country, we offer three study programs - architecture and urban planning, landscape architecture and design. On the surface, these appear to be three different fields, but the underlying goal in all of these is to make everything we bring into the world around us beautiful and functional, literally down to the last door handle or trash can. Thus, industrial design, design and the execution of buildings, residential areas, territories and landscapes are all closely linked.
