The EUmies Awards are organised by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe with the support of the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. They are organised in partnership with the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE) and the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE-CAE); World Architects as a founding partner; the European Cultural Centre as a partner in Venice; sponsored by Jung, Jansen and Regent Lighting; and with the support of USM and Hotel Alma Barcelona. It aims to support the talent of recently graduated Architects, Urban Planners and Landscape Architects, who will be responsible for transforming our environment in the future.
Unlike other competitions, a small number of projects according to the size of the school is nominated by the schools, not by the students themselves, so the prestige of the competition is far higher than any other student competition. The Jury of the EUmies Awards 2023, Young Talent category, was formed by N’Goné Fall, Manuel Henriques, Jennifer Mack, Simone Sfriso and Snežana Vesnić.
FA CTU has over 1500 students and is allowed to nominate 4 diploma projects every other year. We were extremely successful in the two last Young Talent competitions: Veronika Indrová and Filip Galko (Jano Stempel design studio) made it into the 40 Shortlisted projects in the Young Talent 2018 and Kateřina Průchová (Tomáš Novotný) was chosen with her Golden Canal project among the 12 Finalists of the Young Talent 2020.
Young Talent 2023 competition accepted projects presented and approved by the respective schools between January 1st, 2021 and December 31st, 2022 and FA CTU nominated the Post-Media Lighthouse from Jakub Kender (Jano Stempel), the New Central Station Prague - Opera from Zdeněk Volfl (Roman Koucký), the Renewal of the Šluknov Spur from Sára Roeselová (Boris Redčenkov) and the ÚBOČ.34 from David Foud (Tomáš Hradečný). All these projects can be visited at the EUmies Awards archive.
