Guido Brandi is an architect and co-founder of the Zurich-based studio NUAR. Since 2018, he has also served as a research assistant at the ZHAW Institute for Constructive Design. His work addresses complex structural, logistical, and economic challenges involved in reusing building materials. In his lecture, he will focus on circular construction, illustrated through an analysis of the K118 building in Winterthur, Switzerland.
The lecture primarily focuses on the research into circular construction being conducted at the Institute of Constructive Design within the Department of Architecture and Engineering at ZHAW University in Zurich, as well as the broader development of this field in Switzerland. A key emphasis is on analyzing the K118 building, constructed by Baubüro in situ, and the work with students on the reuse of building components. This includes research into reusing structural elements such as concrete, steel profiles, and windows. Additionally, a project by NUAR Architektur, currently in planning, will be presented, which involves reusing abandoned ski lift pillars for the main structure of a school in Zuoz, Switzerland.
