CONVERSION OF A FORMER PRAGUE SLAUGHTERHOUSE

Ditzová Barbora

Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project

Annotation

The former Prague slaughterhouse, today known as The Prague Market, was established during the end of the 19th century as a complicated complex of industrial relations. Its development was already then fast and often hasty. This way of development hasn´t changed much since then, unlike its surroundings. Holešovice, a former industrial suburb, are turning into a multifunctional city district. The city is growing, becoming more dense, the center is shifting. The project is transforming the area into a new campus of the Central European University. It is an effort to find a new identity, restore internal ties and redefine the relationship with the city.
