Libraries - from ancient temples of knowledge to medieval monastic collections and modern sites of study and learning - now having a question hanging over them. Do we need libraries in the age of digitization? Is the screen more than paper? How does its usage change? Formerly accessible only to a select part of society, today perceived as a storehouse of used books, is the library not supposed to be the center of the cultural events of cities and accordingly offer spatial and functional variability? Jablonec nad Nisou with its less than forty-five thousand inhabitants falls into the suburban agglomeration of Liberec. Although the library in Liberec is twenty minutes away by tram, shouldn't a city with the same population as Karlovy Vary have its own cultural center? I plan a complex of buildings, in the center of the city, following a series of public spaces with public buildings.
