AREA - LOCAL CENTER OF MODERNISTIC HOUSING ESTATE

The topic of my diploma thesis is the design of a multi-functional building on the Jižní Město II housing estate and its completion with a cultural and community function. These functions were initially planned for the site of today's Chodov Shopping Center. However, after the Velvet Revolution, these plans changed, and instead, the aforementioned Chodov Shopping Centre emerged. In my thesis, I focus on the topic of the local center within the housing estate and its relationship with the vast public space. I am demolishing the Chrpa Shopping Center which is located on the site; however, I am retaining the existing leases and enhancing the site with a library, a multi-purpose hall, a community centre, and an apartment building. Additionally, I am concentrating on the public spaces in close proximity to the building, specifically Pošepného náměstí and the pedestrian zone.
