Beyond the water's edge

This project, located right on the Franco-German border, is called "beyond the water’s edge". For now, the Rhine river constitues the border between France and Germany but according to history, both of the sides are sharing a common cultural past. We chose to focus on the interaction with the water body itself, and aim to re-invent its access and activities. As a metaphor of the border, it aims to enhance the mobility from both sides towards the river, by creating new active areas and mobility. The project proposes some new unique spaces along the border. A new harbour connection, and a pathway over the river offering another look on the landscape. On the other hand, the parks on each banks are revisited to offer some different atmospheres.
