National Library - Fair-face Concrete Facade

Dominik Vácha

Annotation

The National Library, as a socially important institution, represents the consciousness of the society in which we live in. Architecturally, therefore, it requires a high aesthetic and content value, practically the quality, durability, resilience and sustainability. The designed building of the National Library in Prague in Těšnov has a facade made of exposed concrete, which has the potential to meet these requirements. The specific solution of the facade was preceded by an extensive search for the possibility of modifying exposed concrete and the construction of concrete facades. Subsequently, the southern facade of the National Library is designed in a scale of 1:50 in nine variants. The most suitable facade is then drawn to a detailed scale of 1:10.
