Mirror, mirror ... | Masaryk Square in Nový Bydžov

Bc. Markéta Jahodářová

Annotation

Masaryk Square is located in the historic center of Novy Bydzov. This belongs to the monument zone not only due to landmarks such as the town hall or the Art Nouveau building of the Czech Savings Bank and Museum, but mainly due to its regular floor plan, which is one of the valuable examples of medieval urbanism. There is also one of the oldest roundabouts, thanks to which the square is currently literally occupied by car traffic. However, this place should serve mostly people, pedestrians should feel safe here and not walk through the square for fear that something may harm them. The concept is based on slowing down traffic. The car must feel subordinate to pedestrians here, because the square belongs to them.
