Shell for Manatee

The shape of the pavilion was largely derived from several basic rules, which I set after visiting the Dvůr Králové ZOO. An important principle was the possibility to bypass the pool and turn back towards the ZOO. Another key aspect was the division of exterior and interior, which serves to separate the exotic habitat of manatees and the exterior environment of the ZOO. I emphasized this aspect by designing a large-span skylight with a semi-transparent filling. The last factor I considered was the distance between manatees and visitors. My goal was to bring the animals as close as possible to the visitors so that the visitors can have the maximum experience while maintaining the comfort of the animals and breeders.
