NECROPOLIS BEHIND THE WALL

The Prague Marian bastions, although currently desolate, have the quality of a dignified place in the historic city center. It is therefore remarkable that they maintained an unexpectedly calm character. This quality is what I try to preserve in my design of the necropolis, which I propose at the bastion XII. I base my concept upon the cemetery wall as an element controlling the moment of entry to the 'other side. The element that most often defines the cemetery as such. I design the cemetery as a linear structure, a wall that completes the original fortification line, which has now disappeared. Part of the wall in the area of ​​the bastion of the Virgin Mary is dedicated to the space of a two-story columbarium and a small funeral home, which is situated at its northernmost tip.
