Red Swan

Štěpán Rozsíval

Annotation

A flock of red swans flew away from the Matej pilgrimage and nested on the Holešovice market in the premises of the former slaughterhouse. The proposed solution respects the order and symmetry of the Neo-Renaissance interior. Fifteen swans designed for seating visitors are inserted into a clearly defined space. Their layout, as well as the floor ornament, is based on the regular grid that decorates the ceiling. In an effort to achieve a clear contrast, the colors of the newly inserted range from shades of red, typical of classic Viennese cafes. Visitors are not only participating in an always unique production, they are also its authors, as they are in charge of controlling the height of their swans. The extension of the swans is made possible thanks to hydraulic lifts under the ground.
