TRAM DEPOT LIVING

Non-stop traffic beneath me, peace and home in front of me. This design works with the transformation of the Pankrác tram depot and its most eye-catching feature – the massive concrete barrel vaults which span over individual halls, providing the individual depot halls with both light and air through numerous skylights. Therefore, a crucial part of the design became the effort to preserve them. The roofs will be demolished only partially, and in their place, a flat platform will be constructed. The single-story houses will follow the axis of pillars within the depot and with retained vaults. In the spaces where two vaults meet, creating a 'trough' on the surface, atriums are placed to bring the sunshine into the home.
