Flora Film Factory

This semesters Flybox project topic sets the basis for a structurally extraordinary design. With a water tank on the site which is located in Pragues district Flora the space for planning a Filmschool with additional student housing is extremly limited. Since it is not allowed to place any vertical supports in the area of the watertank we had to come up with an advanced load-bearing concept. These prerequirements lead us to the idea of a huge cantilever. The appearance is underlined by the monumental staircase which meets the building volume diagonally from the oppsite direction. Structurally, we work with two truss beams on the longer sides, which are supported by concrete cores. From these we span over the tank with vierendeel trusses to allow space within the strucuture for the floors.
