Spa in the space between

The word underground tends to summon a wide range of emotions in people. For me, it represents feelings of anxiety, fear and uneasiness. I believe this to be the case of many claustrophobic people. The aim of my project was to create a relaxed space where those feelings would subside. The first opposite of underground that comes to my mind is the open night sky. It´s this spirit in which the whole spa is designed. It´s set in Mediterranean region, at Sicily. The connection to the sky is represented by the atrium above the main pool. We can see inside it while walking the wide stairs outside. The facade is perforated by multiple-sized windows. They provide inside lighting. Downstairs windows might also be used as seating areas. Smaller ones create "stars" when the light passes through them.
