Urbanism III - Theory

The course familiarizes the student with the most important urban theories and ways of thinking about the city since the end of the 19th century. Students will be introduced to the trends and currents that have shaped and are shaping the view on urbanism today. In lectures and seminars, students are guided to critical thinking in order to analyze, evaluate, compare and recognize the practical effects of the theories on the development of European cities. The seminars complete the lectures with analysis of theoretical texts, with an emphasis on linking individual and team work. Part of the course and student assessment is self-study of compulsory literature, active preparation for classes, involvement in discussed topics, preparation of presentations and hand-in of a seminar paper.
