Between Dejvice and Strahov

ZS 2021

Assignment

In the winter semester of 2021/22, students of Atelier Šindlerová will have a unique opportunity to participate in the search for a new vision of the organization and appearance of the university at which they study. Students will deal with the urban design of the transformation of the core area of the Czech technical university in Prague, specifically the campus in Dejvice and the area in Strahov and the entire intermediate part of the city. At the same time, current and future development trends of modern universities, university districts and entire university cities will follow. They will be inspired by their own knowledge of the functioning of the university as well as successful examples of modern universities and university districts in their country, in Europe and around the world. They will also reflect the entirely new demands placed on universities and their involvement in urban structures in the 21st century.

Students of Atelier Šindlerová will design the form and environment of the university in which they would like to study, work and live. It will follow up on the activities of the Dejvice Campus initiative, which seeks a fundamental transformation of the university case in Dejvice. They will have the opportunity to confront their proposals directly with representatives of the Czech technical university in Prague management, the City District of Prague 6 or the capital city of Prague.

Students in a group first analyze the campus in Dejvice, Strahov and the part of the city between the two areas. They identify current problems and untapped potentials of the area, including the interconnection of individual parts of the university and related activities, and including the involvement of the university and the surrounding city. together they also identify current and future demands on the organization and functioning of the university. Each student then chooses a part of the solved area, the transformation of which he proposes. The result will be a collage of individual partial solutions, which together puts together a proposal for the urban transformation of the entire area.

Between Ore Mountains and Czech Central Mountains: Surroundings of Bílina Quarry

ZS 2021

Assignment

1 TASK 2 | VIEWS

Joint assignment of the landscape studio Salzmann/Bečvářová and the urban studio Šindlerová.

Students of landscape architecture and students of architecture and urbanism will collaborate on the assignment. Students of both disciplines will inspire each other and learn from each other. Students will have a unique opportunity to get to know the work of related professions.

In the winter semester of 2021/2022, students of Atelier Šindlerová will have a unique opportunity to participate in cooperation with students of landscape architecture from Atelier Salzmann / Bečvářová in the search for the future of the landscape and settlements around the current Bílina Quarry, the future.

The area around the Bílina Quarry lies between two magical mountains, between the Ore Mountains and the Bohemian Central Mountains. Today, both of these mountains are separated from each other by a mining landscape, surface large-scale brown coal quarries and dumps are impenetrable barriers. Surface lignite mining disrupted the landscape structure, water regime, settlement structure and interpersonal relationships. The Sudetenland of the Ore Mountains was displaced after World War II and gradually repopulated. Towns and villages turn their backs on the mining landscape, gradually become depopulated and have a bad image.

The area below the Ore Mountains has huge potential for the future. The cessation of opencast mining, the decline of industry, the flooding of large quarries and the reclamation of the affected parts of the landscape will change the territory beyond recognition. There will be a landscape full of water, a landscape of lakes, a landscape clean and full of life.

The common task for students of landscape architecture and urbanism will be to look for a completely new order of the territory and its new meaning. Together they will think about the new use of the landscape and the new relationship of municipalities and cities and their inhabitants to this landscape.

Students of Atelier Šindlerová will think about the renewal of settlement ties and settlement structure and the connection of towns and villages with their new and attractive landscape. They will look for ways to change the urban structure of cities and municipalities so that it opens up to a new landscape. They will look for a new image of towns and villages in the post-mining landscape.
