Children's Home

WS 2024

Hospice for Children /  Children's Home  Residential Homes with Apartments for Foster Parents

We are addressing another unpleasant social issue - the taboo of "seriously ill children and children without parents". We are interested in your opinion, the opinion of the emerging generation, which always has the potential to break stereotypes and show new ways.

As part of the pre-diploma seminar by Lucie Bielaková, two locations in the Prague 6 district were selected and a preliminary assignment was prepared. The sites in Veleslavín and Vokovice offer a connection to the Central Military Hospital, a location in a green area, a large plot of land for all functions including a park with an outdoor playground and the possibility of connecting with housing and other functions. We plan to propose the following buildings on the site:

Hospice for Children – Seriously or terminally ill children often need longer-term specialized care that a regular home cannot provide. A palliative care centre, where children are with their whole family, can provide a professional base for a challenging time. Hospice is not a place to die, but a place to heal, a place of hope! It is a haven for families in the most difficult stages of their lives, yet it is filled with comfort, joy and love. This care, which is in its infancy in the Czech Republic, is surrounded by stigmas, yet it is so needed.

Residential Homes with Apartments for Foster Parents – What makes a home? Does the children's home have a place in the 21st century? Where to place children before adoption? Is mentally challenging foster care the right direction for foster parents? What kind of background should a foster couple who are caring for children on a temporary basis before adoption have? We are looking for an apartment building where apartments for regular families are supplemented by units for "professional" parents who often have more than five children in temporary care.

Jakub Kynčl, author of a number of residential projects and nursing homes, will be the guest of the studio. The cooperation has been promised by workers from the Vlčků Family Foundation, who work on the children's hospice in the Cibulka estate.

We are looking forward to all those who like to think, are (not) afraid of BIM and are willing to learn...

Customised Assignment

WS 2024

For the preparation of the diploma project we offer the possibility of a customised assignment. Do you have a favourite typology? Do you have a favourite place? Or even have a specific assignment from your home region? Or don't know yet? In addition to the studio-wide assignment, we also offer the possibility of topics from previous semesters on new specific locations.

For example: facilities for technical services and raw material collection for the city of Milovice.

The aim of the diploma seminar is to map the site, typology, references and prepare a detailed building program.

C

Detention Center

WS 2024

We are addressing yet another society-wide taboo - the topic of "punishment". What types of detention facilities exist? What are their categories and are they the right ones? Where should detention facilities be? Is a detention facility truly reformative? Aren't detention facilities more like a hotel for the inadaptable? The diploma seminar is designed to map and create the basis for the studio assignment for SS 25. In addition to finding a suitable location, the aim is to find available literature on the topic of punishment in society and to prepare a building program for different types of detention facilities according to the level of security and according to the target group (juveniles, women with children, delinquents, dangerous criminals...). Find suitable contemporary or iconic examples from history.

The aim of the diploma seminar is to map the site, the typology, the references and to prepare in detail a building program.

Waste - Hořín

WS 2024

Assignment B - URBANISM

Connecting the conservation area, the collection yard, the research and education centre, the former pheasantry and its integration into the surroundings.

ANNOTATION:
The aim is to design a solution of several seemingly unrelated operations into one unusual unit. It is the connection of the existing conservation building of the former Hořín hunting lodge in the immediate vicinity of the former pheasantry and the existing waste sorting plant. Their connection will be achieved, for example, by creating a new urban design, designing a research and educational centre for the use of waste, e.g. construction waste, including test areas for 3D printing of buildings, use of plastics, wood. A possibility is also the design of an adventure park or other operation based on working with waste. Visitors will be able to try out modern technologies, sorting methods, possibilities of future use of sorted raw materials. It is a didactic project that will teach the public not only that waste is largely a raw material that has a value, but also that it can be better sorted. The former hunting lodge will be used, for example, as a restaurant, refreshments or accommodation. The adjacent pheasantry will be attached to the site as a forest park.

We look forward to your suggestions...

Questions of the meaning of the proposal, further development and context will be addressed with the philosopher Vladan Klement. We will develop BIM design skills with the help of BIM consultants Ivana Vinšová and Martin Rosa. Landscape elements will be consulted by Stanislav Hybler.

This semester, the "studio guest" will be architects Ing. arch. Vojtěch Kaas and Ing. arch. Jan Kalivoda from PROGRES architects, authors of many award-winning buildings.

Those interested, please come with your portfolio to studio 749 after the presentation of the department.
