The project responds to the progressive climate change and the necessary adaptation of cities to extreme manifestations associated with this change. An effective tool for coping with long-term droughts, hot waves and excessive torrential rainfall is building a blue-green infrastructure and rainwater management in built-up areas. The aim of the project is to map the possibilities of evaluation (availability of data) of these tools and to create an indicator or a set of indicators for the Czech cities.

My research is devoted to the Shared space issue, which brings together the transport and socio-cultural functions of the public space. The challenge to continue with my research was based on the recent repetitive terrorist attacks where vehicles run over people. It is clear, that these new experiences have a significant impact on the theory and application of Shared spaces so as the results of my multi-year research. In order to include knowledge of current trends in the design of shared areas, which meet the requirements for protection against terrorist attacks, I request financial support, because I cannot carry out the next part of my research without it. This financial support will be used for covering the cost of travel to London, where I will be able to examine current trends of the solution of the problem. In Czech environment, security and counter-terrorism measures became the issue for examination only recently. For example, the plug-in of the IPR Prague Public spaces manual, which deals with the subject of security for the first time, is currently being prepared by ing. arch. Jan Kadlas. Obviously, there is a necessity to study this new problem abroad. Great Britain is at the forefront of promoting shared spaces and implementing measures to protect against terrorist attacks. London has the oldest noteworthy samples of shared space. Now, after several terrorist attacks in public areas and a serious traffic accident in a shared space, the question of protection areas with high concentration of people and a low level of security from a violent terrorism attack with vehicles is now actively being solved. Based on contacts with the Mayor's Office of the City of London and the interview with officials responsible for counter - terrorism in the city, my goal is to explore possible security and counter-terrorism measures in shared areas and to assess the impact of such measures on their organization and operation. Another objective is to map the differences bet

TOD (Transit Oriented Development) belongs to important contemporary city planning strategies. The concept comes from the European metropolis planning strategy before the massive car production was introduced (second half of the 19.th century to mid 20.th century). The population has doubled, even tripled, and that has been proved in the size and the sight of the city. "Verticalisation" of buildings is economically possible only till certain height, so the need of horizontal city has emerged. In conjunction with the industrial revolution new suburbs have aroused. Their position and density was directly related to the effectivity of transportation, mostly influenced by the railway. Today's theory of TOD comes from the American city environment, that has been most disabled by the automobile production. The railway transportation is emerging in the US from the end of the 70´s with the goal of developing new dense inhabited city quarters, with walkable distances, mixed use and fast connection next to the stations. This type of "European city planning" is applied in the US in different strategies, plans and realizations throughout the country. This theory is reaching Europe and Asia much later. So newly built examples are not often in the EU. The aim of this grant is a research of two built examples of TOD on the continent, concretely as an case study. Copenhagen has been chosen for the first example with its whole city quarter built on the "greenfield" using the principles of TOD (Orestad). The second example comes from the Dutch conurbation Randstad, which is reconstructing/building railway connection based on TOD principles. Both examples are researched on different years. The goal of this grant is a research of the whole TOD process from the beginning to the end. Crucial element for the future success of other projects is the complex knowledge of existing specimen. The experience, strategies, plans and results from the stakeholders point of view is a part of this res

In Czech Republic the change of political system naturally generate interest to public space. The efforts to produce good public space is more and more apparent. Art, systematically abused by communistic ideology, still stays in margin of professional interests. What are the new realizations in Prague after 1989? Which urban context are they installed in? What is their connection with context? Are they generators of identity or are they objects to be ignored? In the countries with developed democratic system the quality of public space is more and more emphasized. Lot of successful realisations prove the meaningfulness of effort to make the cities better place for life. People and civic associations elaborate new strategies in function and development of public space. Permanent public art, systematically supported from 60s of 20. Century, is one of the layers in the city. In the last decades the sense of public art for the city is taken in question. The support is moved to the ephemeral public art, work with communities and in the specific social context.
