Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project

Annotation

The castle of Rokytnice in Orlické hory has lost much of its character during the 20th century events: the castle building was always acompagned with a garden and a farmstead. The areal was split between multiple owners and has become a mosaic of fractions that is conected only with its past and an unsecure future nowadays. The goal of this project is to show the potencial hiddent in the areal and outline the possibilities of its recovery. The project focuses on the sensitivity of the contextual renewal of the courtyard in its approximate volume and floor plan, often with a content that meets the needs of the present so that the area returns to life and meaning. It also connects the connection between the castle, garden and courtyard, so that the individual buildings complement each other functionally. The newly created courtyard, like the park, is a public space and does not aim at the competitive center of Rokytnice, but on the contrary, it complements it with functions that the city may lack today.
