The rail city

The work deals with research focused on the theme of the “rails – city”. It does not see the railway line as an obstacle, but as an integral part of the city (landscape), as the main axis (backbone) in urbanization process. A selection of linear cities is treated in the work - from radical utopian cities to contemporary tendencies that fundamentally influence the author's work. The research was applied to case studies in three countries (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland). Each of the case study project addresses a different problem, which it seeks to understand and transform the negatives of the site into the advantages that could be used in the project. Projects: 1. SUPERORGANISM- Slovakia, line : Margecany - Červená Skala 2020 2. PARAZIT - Czech Republic, Negrelli Viaduct 2017 3. MIMIKRA - Poland, Bunkers Konewka / Jeleń 2021
Since the Middle Ages the cities have been builded on plans which they reflected the needs of trade, transportandsecurity. Significant buildings and sites have begun to connect by road, alley, bridge , tunnel. I am choosing a section focusing on the theme: "The rail - the city", as part of my study. I do not want to take in to the consideration that track is a barrier but that is as an integral part of the city and asthemain axis in townurbanization. SGS research are focusing of project analysis and creation that have been established around the railtrafficartery(thoroughfare)-linearurbanizedcities and their ability to transform into a full-fledged space.
