The research focuses on the application of the elements of the theory of linear urbanism to the current solution for the rural settlements, from which life is lost and they are becoming open-air museums. Rural settlements are currently experiencing a crisis, most of their residents are moving to the big cities for work and in order to improve the quality of their life. This work is inspired by utopian cities from the early 20th century, such as The Roadtown by Edward Chambless, Plan Obus by Le Corbusier or Green City by Konstantin Melnikov. Similar tendencies could be found in highly developed cities such as Tokyo. The book Made in Tokyo from the Bow-wow studio, has already mapped the use of those utopian tendencies in Tokio and tries to apply its forms to the existing typology of cities and landscapes. The aim is not to put all the functions in one coxinglomerate, but rather to create a superorganism within the country. The superorganism consists of several settlements with insufficient facilities. The settlements are interconnected by railway, which already exists. The most important transformation is hidden in the utilisation of the transport infrastructure and in the further addition of the necessary facilities in such a way that the individual necessary points within the linear composition can be shared between multiple dwellings. The starting point of the research is a critical look at current methods of chaotic construction and the creation of an unassuming superorganism within the country. The subject of the research is the methodology of work in the protected landscape area and restoring its attractiveness from the perspective of the current artistic concepts, technologies and strategies.

As part of the research on the impact of urban depopulation on different types of urban structures, this paper focuses on one of the common types of urban development in Central Europe: post-war housing estates of solitary apartment buildings. The basic premise of the research is that the reduction of pressure on the territory caused by the population decline (the phenomenon of "shrinking cities") makes it possible to saturate some inherent deficits of these urban structures that are difficult to address in the situation of "normal" growing cities. Several reference neighborhoods of post-war settlements are selected, we collect their analytical data and monitor their change in relation to shrinkage. The variables monitored for the data analysis are a) spatial (public space and urban composition, hierarchy of privacy levels of public spaces), b) cultural (historical value, symbolic meaning), c) functional (diversity of functions, availability of amenities, capacity of technical and transport infrastructure), d) demographic (population density). The data obtained on the urban districts affected by shrinkage are confronted with the inherent deficits of each type of structure defined in the existing literature. On this basis, the possibilities of using shrinkage (a form of quantitative decline) to qualitatively grow post-war solitary urban structures are proposed. It seems possible to enrich the spectrum of public space types (reduced in this period of development compared to previous periods), to enrich the possibilities of housing types, to enrich the functional structure or to reflect the change in the need for transport infrastructure capacity due to lower population density.

While much attention is paid to urban development and to what is being built in general, much lesser notice has been given to the opposite phenomenon. While some cities are growing rapidly, many others are experiencing a population decline for various reasons. These include economic, environmental, and social changes to which urban societies and structures have to adapt. Significant outflow of population and decreasing population density are symptoms of these cities’ structural crisis. As a result, local urban centers are reorganized and parts of residential districts are demolished. The paper analyzes the neighborhoods of selected European cities in which a significant demolition of residential structures has taken place over the last 30 years and seeks to find the parameters that characterize the affected areas and embody the nature of „what and why“ we demolish in our cities today. On the other hand it is looking for characteristics that make these places different from one another. It also compares resulting quality of the respective areas after their adaptation to the new situation. The paper focuses mainly (but not only) on the physical impact of shrinkage on the selected cities structures and seeks for evidence and reasons of different vigour of studied phenomenon in diverse neighborhoods of cities. While shrinking cities is a worldwide spread issue, we focus on the European continent only due to the ability to compare European cities to each other and keeping the same urban structure framework at the same time.

L’inclusion d’un nouveau bâtiment dans une structure urbaine existante et la création d’une relation synergique entre ce bâtiment et le lieu dans lequel il prend place demeure encore aujourd’hui une tâche architecturale majeure. Sachant que le critère de valeur le plus important en lien avec les nouvelles constructions n’est pas le bâtiment lui-même mais ce qui émane de lui vers son environnement, sa continuité avec l’espace public. Les passages représentent un des moyens pour mettre en place une telle interconnexion. Leur forte présence, notamment dans la première moitié du 20e siècle, est caractéristique de la ville de Prague : il est en ce sens possible de parler d’un vrai phénomène qui n’a pas son pareil dans le contexte des villes européennes de l’époque. Les passages rendent traversables de vastes blocs compacts du centre-ville et leur épais réseau constitue un système de communication parallèle. Dans quelle mesure leur création a-t-elle été consciemment initiée par les constructeurs et architectes ? S’est-il agit d’une conception urbanistique préméditée ? C’est à ces questions que la présente contribution tentera de répondre.

Historická architektura je často vnímána jako samostatná, uzavřená etapa výstavby, ke které máme jako společnost poněkud ambivalentní vztah. Na jedné straně ji považujeme za součást našeho kulturního dědictví a jako takovou ji bezmála vyčleňujeme do samostatné skupiny objektů, jejichž ochranu a obnovu svěřujeme specialistům, na druhé straně ji vnímáme jako překážku dalšího rozvoje a uplatnění současných požadavků na užívání domů. Chceme ukázat, že téma kontextu staré, nebo chceme-li historické a současné architektury je živé, aktuální a mimořádně zajímavé. Je to téma, které přesahuje architekturu jako stavební nebo uměleckou tvorbu. Je to současně hledání inspirace, řádu, významu míst, měřítka a forem, které určovaly a ovlivňovaly generace před námi, a zároveň vytváření forem nových, které žijí současností a hledí do budoucnosti. Město i jednotlivé stavby jsou živé organismy, i když je tak mnozí nechápou. K jejich pochopení je třeba dostatek času, znalostí a lety nabytých zkušeností. Věříme v práci v týmu lidí sestaveném individuálně podle charakteru zakázky, ve vyvážený pohled architektů, techniků, historiků, restaurátorů i památkářů. Právě zodpovědně, mezioborově vedený dialog je podle našich zkušeností cestou ke kvalitnímu výsledku.

Jak reagovat na dnešní praxi architektonicko-urbanistických soutěží? Pochvalou? Posměškem? Ironie ovšem nebývá nejkonstruktivnější cestou a otevřením debaty. Vybrali jsme si cestu srovnání idealistických představ a žitých realit ve světle tří témat – chimér českého soutěžení. Ty je nutné zkrotit předtím, než se rozplynou. Letmý pohled z perspektivy bydlení pak působí dojmem nebývalé aktivity veřejného sektoru, kdy se soutěží jak obecní bytová výstavba, tak i celé nové čtvrti. Jedná se o realitu, anebo je přání otcem myšlenky?

Príspevok nadväzuje ma predchádzajúcu uverejnenú prácu, v ktorej sme identifikovali zmršťujúce mesta v Moravsko-sliezskom kraji. V ďalšom kroku identifikujeme postihnuté lokality vo vybraných mestách. V novom príspevku sa zameriame na podrobný popis procesu ktorý prebieha v identifikovaných lokalitách trpiacich štrukturálnou krízou. Tieto lokality budú popisované a porovnávané v kontexte zasiahnutých miest v moravsko-sliezskom kraja. V Príspevku je hľadaný a porovnávaný proces ktorým postupujú lokality počas celého prechodu procesom zmršťovania. Po špecifických zmenách prichádzajú na radu zmeny v samotnej štruktúry mesta, preorganizovanie lokálnych ohnísk, zmeny hustoty zaľudnenia a vyznám lokality v rámci mesta. Zameriame sa na metodické zovšeobecnenie tohto procesu v lokalitách a následne komparáciu samotných procesov medzi sebou. Budeme hľadať spoločné znaky ktoré sú špecifické pre tento proces skrz všetky skúmane lokality. Dôležitým bodom je najdenie zlomového bodu v ktorom sa lokalita dostáva do nebezpečnej špirály v ktorom sa navzájom hromadia negatívne javy ktoré vedu k prehlbovaniu problému postihnutej lokality. Identifikovanie tohto bodu zlomu bude mať prínos pri identifikácií začínajúceho problému v mestách ktorých sa problematika dotýka.

Katalóg k výstave sa zaoberá výskumom zameraným na tému koľaj – mesto (krajina). Nevníma trať ako prekážku ale ako neoddeliteľnú súčasť mesta(krajiny), ako hlavnú osu (chrbticu) pri urbanizácii. Práca spracováva výber lineárnych miest od radikálnych utopických miest až po súčasné tendencie, ktoré zásadne ovplyvňujú autorkinu tvorbu. Jej výskum spracováva tri principy tvorby „mesta na koľaji“ v troch krajinách Európy. Výstava vystavuje projekty študentov FA ČVUT ateliéru Balejová -Mrázová a VŠVU ateliéru Hájek -Rypáková, ktorý sa v roku 2020-2021 venovali téme železnica.
