DIVERSITY OF REUSE

Dvorská Mária

Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project

Annotation

The diploma thesis focuses on the castle in Jablonica, Slovakia, which is a national cultural monument but is currently in a critical condition, threatening its further existence. Based on analytical, research, and theoretical work focused on the diversity of conversions, the proposal addresses the necessity of preserving the castle. The goal is for the next phase of the building to function sustainably, both architecturally and urban, through form, connectivity, and the interaction of various functions and public spaces. Emphasis is placed on respecting the buildings historical value while breathing new life into it, preventing it from disappearing forever from Slovakias national memory. The diploma thesis also highlights the criticism of inaction and legislative inflexibility, which contribute to the loss of cultural values.
